Detailed Product Description:
Thai Massage,
also called Thailand Massage or Thailand Medical Massage, is a therapeutic
type of bodywork. The main focus of Thai Massage is to unblock
energy that is trapped in the body. Of the 72,000 energy pathways or vessels
that are said to exist to distribute the vital life energy force known
as chi or prana, Thai Massage focuses on the 10 major lines called Sens.
The 10 Sen lines
are more closely related to the Indian system than to the Chinese or
Japanese systems of meridians.
Massage has a
long history of therapeutic healing in Thailand. Thai Massage may have been created over
2500 years ago and is still practiced today.
In the second
century B.C. the Indian King Ashoka sent Buddhist missionaries to Thailand. They built great temples where the practice
of massage flourished. Many
of the postures and movements used in Thai Massage communicate the
adaptation of yogic techniques from Hinduism.
The knowledge
of massage and traditional massage in Thailand has
been handed down orally or by practical demonstration of touch from
one generation to the next within the family. It
is usually passed from parent to child and teacher to student.
When the flow
of vital life energy is impeded, certain points along the meridians
accumulate blockage. These
blockages can be caused by physical injury, emotional stress, improper
diet, and lack of exercise, and ultimately result in pain and disease
when left untreated.
To clear blocked
meridian points the practitioner uses pressure exerted with finger,
thumbs, hands, forearms, elbows, and feet. Stretching all the muscles of the body
and integrating yoga-like stretches using a rocking motion are integral
parts of the treatment. Once
the stagnated energy is flowing freely, tensed muscles relax and dysfunctional
organs heal themselves.
A unique feature
of Thai Massage is that it is given on the floor. This
is to accommodate the yoga-like stretches. Also,
the person remains clothed during the massage.
The
secret of learning Thai Massage is good instruction and practice. The
International Instructing Team assists in the teaching of the
Thailand Massage Seminars. This Instructing Team is made up of
health care professionals from many disciplines. All instructors
are massage practitioners and have been specially trained and certified
in Thailand Massage techniques of
Chaing
Mai, Thailand.
