“Road to Oasis” is a mental traveler full of sadness, thoughtfulness, hear tendering sorrow, endless dreams, mystery and passion, and going from the west to east. We say that each life is also a journey. One’s pain and true thoughtfulness are learned through a variety of encounters and partings. We also say there are more events that are difficult than happy ones, but we can see that everybody has an oasis in their hearts as they pause for a moment in their lives before moving on, advancing with an acceptance of all events… Although it may be far in the future, a light is surely shining. There is no night that has never been followed by a sunrise. I composed this album thinking about such things. To the Li-Hua Ensemble (the Erhu, Pipa, Yangqin and Guzheng) featured on the album “Asian Blossoms,” I added various musical instruments and musicians for this album such as the Hammered Dulcimer, Santur, Saz, which is a Turkish instrument, a Chinese flute, a handmade Nay from Egypt, an Arabian pipe, the Balaban, a Chinese instrument, the Guanzi, and the Shinboe from Japan, a harp, an oboe, a horn, strings, a piano, an electric acoustic guitar and a synthesizer.

The Gu Zheng is a musical instrument with over 2,000 years of history, and is one of the most popular folk instruments loved in China. The basic tuning uses the pentatonic scale, so it is quite difficult to play western melodies.

It is a great pleasure for me to be able to open the door to a new world on this album without losing the unique sound of the Gu Zheng. Everybody, please enjoy the new attractive of the Gu Zheng.

All of them share the realization that subtle life energy can be activated to promote self-awareness and self-healing of body, mind and soul.

This music was originally conceived in a meditation hall in India, where we met and played together for the first time. There, while playing, we experienced a profound meeting of sound and silence which became the inspiration for creating this album.

From the very beginning of this project our intention has been to convey that experience of silence through music. So, when we started recording in Maui, before each session, we would meditate together. Out of this space, we would then play and record music “live” in the studio. This is the music that followed. It unfolded moment to moment – spontaneously and harmoniously.

We are pleased to share it with you – ZENotes – a meeting of sound and silence.

Music for relaxation has been part of my life for many years. Sometimes to me, relaxation means being touched by loving hands with soft music to deepen the experience – massage is love made feel-able. This music, Reiki Forest, has been created to be used in similar situations. While recording I have allowed sounds to emerge that have a healing quality to me.

In New Zealand, where this music has been recorded, the sounds of native birds are everywhere. They would come floating into my room and it seems that whenever I’d play music the birds would join in with me. This CD is a record of that meeting.
